HC Deb 11 January 1993 vol 216 c631W
Rev. Martin Smyth

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what provision has been made to equip the British forces in Bosnia with clothing and protection to enable them to operate and survive in sub-zero temperatures.

Mr. Archie Hamilton

British forces deployed with the UN in the former Yugoslavia have been provided with clothing and equipment appropriate to the conditions in country. Tented accommodation used on initial deployment is currently being replaced with portacabin-type facilities that can withstand the winter conditions. Action has also been taken to ensure that, if the weather conditions in Yugoslavia become harsher than expected, we can quickly provide troops with additional clothing and equipment.
