To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment when he expects the first EC eco-labels to be issued in the United Kingdom.

The European Commission recently announced that the eco-labelling scheme would be launched in June and that they expected to have agreed the criteria for a range of product groups by then. The number and timing of awards will depend on industry's response to the scheme and whether there are any objections to the proposed awards.
