HC Deb 23 February 1993 vol 219 c512W
Mr. Alton

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what action has been taken to put to the Burmese authorities the plight of Burmese women and children who are trafficked to Thailand for prostitution.

Mr. Goodlad

The trafficking of women and children into Thailand for prostitution is a matter of serious concern.

The Burmese authorities appear to be well aware of the problem and to be co-operating with UNICEF and WHO in tackling it. The embassy in Rangoon monitors the situation and is in regular contact with Burmese health officials and UN agencies based in Rangoon.
