HL Deb 18 February 1993 vol 542 c78WA
The Countess of Mar

asked Her Majesty's Government:

How many awards of industrial injury benefit under category C3 for illnesses caused by use or handling of an exposure to organophosphates have been made since 1985; and whether sheep dipping is recognised as a prescribed occupation.

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department of Social Security (Lord Henley)

Within our 10 per cent. sample of initial assessments, there have been no awards of industrial injury disablement benefit (IIDB) in relation to prescribed disease C3 since 1985. Sheep dipping is not a named occupation for prescription purposes. However, where it can be shown that an employed earner has used, handled or been exposed to sheep dip containing organophosphate pesticides, a claim for IIDB in respect of prescribed diseases C3 can be considered under the normal rules.
