§ Mr. DalyellTo ask the President of the Board of Trade if he will make a statement on the IAEA meeting in Oslo from 1 to 5 February on dumping in the Kara and Barents seas.
§ Mr. CurryI have been asked to reply.
The meeting was held under the joint auspices of the International Atomic Energy Authority, the Norwegian Radiation Protection Authority and the Federal Hydrometeorological Committee of Russia. Officials from the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food and from the Ministry of Defence attended.
The meeting launched "The International Arctic Seas Assessment Project (IASAP) 1993–95", a scientific programme designed to assess the implications for human health and the environment of radioactive wastes dumped in the Kara and Barents seas by the former Soviet Union and to consider any necessary remedial action. I welcome the co-operation being offered by the Russian authorities and look forward to seeing the results of this investigation.
