To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what advice he has given to police authorities regarding their possible re-organisation; and what plans he has for primary legislation to restructure the constabularies of England and Wales.

We have not given advice to police authorities on this matter. We are considering a range of issues relating to the future structure, organisation and funding of the police service.

When we have firm proposals for change we shall consult interested parties.
