HC Deb 12 February 1993 vol 218 c862W
Mr. Peter Bottomley

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport if he will estimate the revenue from duty on fuel consumed on motorways.

Mr. Kenneth Carlisle

Approximately one eighth of the petrol and one quarter of the diesel fuel used in this country is consumed on motorways. The duty paid on this fuel would have been about £1.7 billion in 1991–92.
