Mr. Salmond

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence how many soldiers(a) are, and (b) can be accommodated in barracks which are curently in use in Scotland; and which barracks these are.

Fifty-eight officers and 966 soldiers of the regular Army are accommodated in barracks currently in use in Scotland. These figures fluctuate daily owing to postings, enlistments and discharges. Barrack accommodation is available for 163 officers and 2,022 soldiers in Edinburgh at Craigiehall, the Castle, Dreghorn and Glencorse; in Inverness; in Fort George; and in the Hebrides at Benbecula and St. Kilda.

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence for how many days per annum barracks not currently used by the Regular Army are used by the Territorial Army Volunteer Reserve; which barracks are used by the Territorial Army Volunteer Reserve; and if he will give similar information for Royal Navy quarters, Royal Air Force quarters and Royal Marine barracks.
