HL Deb 09 February 1993 vol 542 cc40-1WA
Lord O'Hagan

asked Her Majesty's Government:

How many member states have introduced national legislation on the model of the Sea Fish (Conservation) Act 1992; and to what extent such legislation has been implementated and enforced.

The Parliamentary Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (Earl Howe)

The Netherlands and Belgium already operate days-at-sea regimes. I do not have details of such legislation in other member states. However, all Community fishing fleets are subject to multi-annual guidance pro- grammes, and we shall not reduce days at sea here unless we are satisfied that other member states are taking effective steps to meet their targets.
