To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what consideration he has given to the future role of NATO; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Rifkind

The basis of the alliance's future security policy was set out in the strategic concept issued by the NATO heads of state at a summit in Rome in November 1991. The principles it contains will shape the further development of the alliance's defence policy, operational concepts and force posture.
