HC Deb 09 February 1993 vol 218 c573W
Mr. Foulkes

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence how much has been spent on refitting HMS Valiant.

Mr. Aitken

The total estimated cost of refitting work on HMS Valiant (including the current docking and essential defects period) since the introduction of commercial management into the dockyards, in April 1987, is £90 million.

Refitting expenditure prior to April 1987 could be identified accurately only at disproportionate cost.

Mr. Foulkes

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what plans he has for the deployment of HMS Valiant.

Mr. Archie Hamilton

HMS Valiant is currently undergoing routine repairs at Rosyth. It is not our practice to disclose details of the operational deployment of Royal Navy submarines.
