HC Deb 09 February 1993 vol 218 c560W
Mr. Cousins

To ask the President of the Board of Trade if the Office of. Fair Trading will review the retail activities of the regional electricity companies; and when the Office of Fair Trading last reported to him on this matter.

Mr. Neil Hamilton

The Office of Fair Trading is currently reviewing the retail activities of the regional electricity companies in conjunction with the Office of Electricity Regulation (OFFER) in response to a complaint from a major competitor. The Director General of Fair Trading made a reference to the Monopolies and Mergers Commission (MMC) in 1982 about the direction and management by the London Electricity Board of its business of retailing domestic electrical goods, spare parts and ancillary goods. The MMC reported to the President of the Board of Trade in March 1983.
