asked Her Majesty's Government:

Of the 99 cases being investigated under the War Crimes Act 1991, how many involved people in each of the following age categories: (a) 65 to 70 years; (b) 70 to 75 years; (c) 75 to 80 years; (d) over 80 years; and

How many detectives and other police staff, including civilians, are employed on the investigations of war crimes under the War Crimes Act 1991; and

What are the locations and periods of the alleged war crimes committed by the 99 British residents now under investigation under the War Crimes Act 1991.

There arc now 93 cases under investigation. The ages of those being investigated are shown in the following table:

The allegations relate to incidents in Byelorussia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Russia and the Ukraine during the period from June 1941 to the spring of 1944.

Twenty-one staff, including seven civilians, are currently employed on the investigation of war crimes. The number and rank of police officers involved in current investigations is given in the following table.
