Mr. Cousins

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer (1) if he will provide an estimate based on the most recent census of production of the added value per head in British manufacturing industry (i) as a whole and (ii) in plants in the United Kingdom of enterprises based in(a) other EC countries, (b) the United States of America, (c) Japan and (d) the United Kingdom;

The required information is available from "Business Monitor PA 1002, Report on the Census of Production, Summary Volume". Tables 1 and 2 give information for all public and private sector enterprises operating in the United Kingdom. Table 18 gives further information on private enterprises in the United Kingdom controlled from overseas. Copies of this volume for years up to 1990 are available from the Library of the House.
