HC Deb 08 February 1993 vol 218 c492W
Mr. Llew Smith

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence if he will request from the Secretary General of the United Nations a copy of the report listing the names of military and dual-use equipment suppliers to Iraq, given to the United Nations special investigation commission on Iraq by the Iraqi Government on 26 January.

Mr. Aitken

It is not our practice to comment in detail on the information we request or receive from the United Nations special commission on Iraq.

Dr. Lynne Jones

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what were the types and models of(a) aircraft and (b) missiles attacked by allied aircraft in Iraq in January; and what assessment has been made of the technical threat posed to United Kingdom and allied aircraft by such weapons.

Mr. Archie Hamilton

Allied forces attacked SAM-3 strategic surface-to-air missile sites and shot down a MiG-29 fighter aircraft that had entered the southern no-fly zone. These types of assets pose a significant potential threat to United Kingdom and allied aircraft.
