To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what estimates he has made of the prospects for growth in the economies of the European Community.

In the autumn statement my right hon. Friend the Chancellor of the Exchequer forecast that average growth in the three main continental European economies in 1993 would be under 1 per cent. A more recent forecast by the European Commission points to growth in the Community as a whole of only ¾ per cent.
