To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment whether a local authority development plan is an interest of acknowledged importance in terms of the guidance provided in paragraph five of planning policy guidance note 1.

Planning policy guidance note 1 (March 1992) provides advice on the determination of planning applications in accordance with sections 70(2) and 54A of the Town and Country Planning Act 1990. In the process of deciding a planning application, which entails having regard to the development plan and all other material considerations, all interests of acknowledged importance should be identified and any harm that would be caused, were permission to be granted, taken into account.
