HC Deb 03 February 1993 vol 218 cc231-2W
Mr. Hain

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what his Department's urban expenditure is per capita in England.

Mr. Robin Squire

The Government support urban regeneration in England through a wide range of programmes. My Department's urban group of programmes is spending over £1 billion in 1992–93, of which some £960 million is targeted on the 57 urban priority areas. Dividing that figure by the 15 million estimated population of those areas gives a per capita figure of £64; dividing by the 48.1 million estimated total population of England would give a per capita figure of £20.
