To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will reconsider the proposed reductions in section 11 funding.

The Government remain firmly committed to the reduction of racial disadvantage, and section 11 grant continues to play an important role in our programme. My right hon. and learned Friend and I regret, however, that in the present economic circumstances it is not possible to sustain throughout the next three years the level of expenditure that had earlier been planned.
