To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many prisoners shared(a) three to a cell, (b) two to a cell and (c) occupied a single cell at the latest available date; and what proportion of each category were (i) convicted and (ii) remand prisoners.

The following table shows how many prisoners shared three and two to cells certified as normal accommodation for one person on 18 December 1992. Information is not available for the proportion of convicted and remand prisoners held three or two to a cell, and instead the table provides a breakdown of figures by type of establishment.

Information is not available on the number of prisoners occupying single cells.
