To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what financial provisions he has made for 1992–93, 1993–94 and 1994–95 for(a) capital and (b) revenue expenditure on opted-out schools.

Mr. David Hunt

The information is as follows:

1992–93 £ 1993–942 £
Capital grant 509,000 6,000,000
Annual maintenance grant 4,286,742 3
Other revenue expenditure1 310,000 2,125,000

No decisions have been taken for future years.

1 Other revenue expenditure includes transitional grant, special purpose grants, grant made to the grant-maintained schools centre, and payments to the Electoral reform Society for arranging the parental ballots.

2 The 1993–94 details are set in Estimates which are subject to parliamentary approval.

3 Annual maintenance grant reflects the sum the local education authority would have spent on the school if it had continued to control it. Decisions on future levels of support cannot therefore, be taken until LEAs have resolved their budgets.
