My Department does not place contracts on behalf of NATS. This is done by the Civil Aviation Authority. Additionally, information relating to contracts placed before 1988 is not held centrally and could not be provided without disproportionate cost and effort. However, I am able to provide the following details.

Since 1 April 1988, some 378 contracts have been placed. These contracts cover a wide range of subjects including the development of improved air traffic control systems; airport and airspace capacity studies; safety studies; cost-benefit analyses; development/improvement of communication, navigation and surveillance systems.

Details of all companies to whom contracts have been awarded since 1985 again could not be provided without disproportionate cost. Companies awarded contracts since April 1991 are:
