HC Deb 14 December 1993 vol 234 c599W
Mr. Wilson

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will arrange for documents held in the Scottish Record Office, currently subject to the 30-year rule, on the subject of steelwork and terminal facilities at Hunterston to be made available for early inspection.

Mr. Stewart

[holding answer 30 November 1993]: In accordance with the changes to the criteria governing the closure and retention of files announced in the White Paper on Open Government (Cm 2290), the files in question may be made available for inspection subject to prior approval on a file-by-file basis by the Scottish Office. Such access would also be subject to a commitment on the part of inquirer that any material extracted from the files would be cleared by the Department prior to its delivery, publication or broadcast.
