HC Deb 09 December 1993 vol 234 cc310-1W
Mr. Frank Field

To ask the right hon. Member for Selby (Mr. Alison), representing the Church Commissioners, which Church Commissioners are also members of Her Majesty's Government; and which meetings of the commissioners, on how many occasions, were attended by each such member in the last three calendar years.

Mr. Alison

Seven out of 95 Church Commissioners are members of Her Majesty's Government: the Lord Chancellor; the First Lord of the Treasury; the Lord President of the Council; the Secretary of State for the Home Department; the Chancellor of the Exchequer; the Attorney-General; and the Solicitor-General. The Lord President of the Council attended the commissioners' annual general meeting in 1991 and 1993. The Attorney-General and the Solicitor-General attended that meeting in 1992.

The Second Church Estates Commissioner is included under the heading "Her Majesty's Government" in the list which appears from time to time in Hansard, but the appointment is not an executive Government post and it carries no salary.
