HC Deb 02 December 1993 vol 233 c646W
Mr. Prescott

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport if he will make a statement about the ownership of Kingston upon Hull City Transport.

Mr. Leigh

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport if he will make a statement about the future of Kingston upon Hull City Transport Ltd.

Mr. Freeman

The Secretary of State has given formal consent to the sale of Kingston-upon-Hull City Transport Ltd, the bus company owned by the Hull city council, to Cleveland Transit Ltd. The new owners are to offer a 49 per cent. shareholding in the company to the employees.

Change of ownership takes place under the terms of section 75(3) of the Transport Act 1985, which allows authorities to sell their public transport companies with the consent of the Secretary of State.

I wish the company success in the private sector.
