What is the estimated cost in the current financial year of the office of the Minister who deals with prisons in the Home Office, and what was the cost of this office in the last full year before the responsibility for this work was delegated to the Prison Service.

In this financial year, 1993–94, the estimated cost of staffing the office of the Home Office Minister dealing with prisons is £106,422. In the previous financial year the staffing costs amounted to£123,808. The Minister dealing with prisons also has responsibility for community relations, betting and gaming, and Sunday Trading. In addition, in June 1993 he took on responsibility for the voluntary sector, charities, cults and the Home Office interest in women's issues.
