Mr. Nigel Jones

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will publish the findings of MORI polls carried out during the Local Government Commission's public consultation exercise on proposals for the reorganisation of local government in Avon, Gloucestershire and Somerset; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Baldry

This is a matter for the Local Government Commission. However, I understand that it will be publishing the results of the MORI polls in Avon, Gloucestershire and Somerset shortly.

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment when he will publish the Local Government Commission's final recommendations for Avon, Gloucestershire and Somerset, following the public consultation exercise carried out earlier this year; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Baldry

The Local Government Commission is currently drawing up its final recommendations to my right hon. Friend on local government structure in Avon, Gloucestershire and Somerset. It is due to complete this final report by 23 January 1994.
