§ Lord James Douglas-HamiltonThe caissons on the Skye bridge have been designed to withstand the impact from a 10,000 tonne dead weight vessel. This allows for all known shipping movements. This 10,000 tonne limit was agreed with Marine Directorate of the Department of Transport.
