HC Deb 21 April 1993 vol 223 cc109-10W
Ms Ruddock

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what is the estimated value of the contract of the warehousing and distribution function of the supply and transport division of the prison service.

Mr. Peter Lloyd

Responsibility for this matter has been delegated to the director general of the prison service, who has been asked to arrange for a reply to be given.

Letter from Derek Lewis to Ms Joan Ruddock, dated 20 April 1993: The Home Secretary has asked me to write to you in response to your Parliamentary Question about the value of the contract for the warehousing and distribution and function of the Supply and Transport Division of the Prison Service. As you will know, it was not possible to negotiate a satisfactory contract with Beck & Pollitzer, who were the contractors originally selected. A service level agreement was therefore awarded to the in-house operation, who were the next best bidders. The operating budget for the warehousing and distribution function is approximately £5.5 million over the 3-year life of the agreement.
