§ Mr. Robert JacksonThe Institute of Food Research did not come into being until the financial year 1985–86. Food research was previously carried out in the Meat Research Institute, Food Research Institute and the National Institute for Research in Dairying which were amalgamated into the Institute of Food Research. Recurrent science budget expenditure in the Institute of Food Research and its pre-cursors from 1978–79 is given in the table:
