§ Mr. DowdTo ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what guidelines he has issued to Greater London council successor bodies on energy efficiency.
§ Mr. MacleanNo guidelines were issued to GLC successor bodies on energy efficiency. However, my Department actively promotes cost effective energy efficiency measures throughout the public sector, including organisations in London. For example, on 10 March, the Energy Efficiency Office organised a conference on energy efficiency in buildings at the Guildhall in the City of London to which the chief executives of all London boroughs were invited.
§ Mr. DowdTo ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what is his Department's current strategy on promoting energy efficiency in both new and existing public and private buildings across London.
§ Mr. MacleanMy Department has a number of programmes in place to promote cost effective energy efficiency measures in the industrial, commercial, domestic and public sectors of the economy. These are not targeted at specific geographical locations; however, events are held in London to directly influence people in the London area, and the south-east regional Energy Efficiency Office promotes energy efficiency in the region. The Office is also involved with many local energy management groups which provide a forum for energy managers to identify their common problems and to find solutions.
