HL Deb 15 April 1993 vol 544 c94WA
Baroness Jeger

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Why people who elect to have their pensions paid direct to their bank or building society are paid monthly in arrears.

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department of Social Security (Lord Henley)

New pensioners are likely to retire from an employment where they received earnings monthly in arrears, so payment of their pension four-weekly in arrears allows continuity in budgeting.
