HL Deb 14 April 1993 vol 544 c71WA
Lord Houghton of Sowerby

asked Her Majesty's Government:

In what circumstances the police may lawfully destroy a dog in their custody and against which no charge has been made under the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991; and whether the recent protest of Mr. Glen Stead of Grimscot Heath Farm, Litchborough, Northamptonshire, raises any new powers of destruction given to the police.

The Minister of State, Home Office (Earl Ferrers)

I understand from the Chief Constable of Northamptonshire Police that proceedings have been instigated in this matter. The case is thereforesub judice and it would be inappropriate to comment at this stage.
