§ Mr. SpearingTo ask the President of the Board of Trade what approximate proportions of national energy requirements, excluding transport, have been supplied by(a) coal, (b) domestically produced petroleum, (c) imported petroleum, (d) domestic natural gas and (e) renewable sources, for each of the past five years; what proportions he expects those sources to supply in the next five years, consequent on the published plans of the bodies concerned; and if he will give the net costs for past years using the actual exchange rates, and, for future years, a range of possible exchange costs likely to be incurred.

In 1991, approximately 10.1 million tonnes, or 13.6 per cent. of the consumption of petroleum products in the United Kingdom, including that by the transport sector, was met by imported petroleum products. During the same period, exports of petroleum products amounted to approximately 19.4 million tonnes. These figures and data for earlier years are published in tables 33 and A8 of the annual "Digest of United Kingdom Energy Statistics".
In 1991, approximately 89 per cent. of natural gas consumption was domestically produced. This figure and data for earlier years can be derived from table A10 of the annual "Digest of United Kingdom Energy Statistics".
The estimated expenditure on energy by final consumers is published in table 9 of the annual "Digest of United Kingdom Energy Statistics". Figures consistent with the previous table—that is, excluding the transport sector—are set out in the following table.
