To ask the Secretary of State for Education what is the Government's policy towards pupil exclusions; and if he will make a statement.

The Government are concerned that too many children are being excluded from school, either permanently or temporarily. My right hon. Friend is anxious to remedy this situation and will shortly be publishing a discussions paper on exclusions, inviting comments from interested parties. Copies will be placed in the Libraries of both Houses.
