HL Deb 26 November 1992 vol 540 cc79-80WA
Baroness Fisher of Rednal

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether the Resettlement Agency has been able to make satisfactory replacement provision for Alvaston, Walkden, Plasworth, and Winterbourne Resettlement Units.

Lord Henley

Yes. The Resettlement units at Alvaston, Walkden, Plasworth and Winterbourne were closed earlier this year when the number of replacement beds operational exceeded those in normal occupation at those units. The Resettlement Agency is carrying forward Her Majesty's Government's policy of replacing its own resettlement units with superior hostels operated by voluntary organisations and local authorities. The new hostels provide excellent facilities, far superior to those they have replaced, and Her Majesty's Government is very satisfied with the way the policy is being carried out.
