Mr. Rooney

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security what was the total amount of(a) employers' and (b) employees' national insurance contributions collected for each of the last 10 fiscal years expressed (a) in cash terms, (b) at June 1992 prices and (c) as a percentage of total Exchequer income.

1 Includes national insurance surcharge in the period to 1984–85.

2 Includes national insurance contributions by self-employed for which separate data are only available from 1986–87.

3 Treasury estimate of GDP deflator in the second quarter of 1992 used to covert current price to constant June 1992 prices.
