§ Mr. FatchettTo ask the Secretary of State for Health (1) pursuant to her answer of 30 October,Official Report, column 942, what requests have now been made to Coopers and Lybrand in connection with the interleukin-6 research project; if she will make it her policy to publish the result of reports from auditors into the interleukin-6 project; and if she will make a statement;
(2) if she will ensure that any inquiry carried out on behalf of United Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust into the interleukin-6 research project should take evidence from all relevant witnesses; and if she will make a statement.
§ Dr. MawhinneyI understand that the United Leeds Teaching Hospitals National Health Service Trust has no plans to institute a formal inquiry into the interleukin-6 research project which is primarily a matter for the university of Leeds.
At no time have the auditors employed by the United Leeds teaching hospitals national health service trust or the then Leeds Western health authority made a report in connection with the interleukin-6 research project. However the trust has now asked Coopers and Lybrand to look at the feasibility of estimating any possible loss to the NHS of the interleukin-6 research project.
