Mr. William O'BrienTo ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what organisations are invited to nominate people to serve on the health and social services boards in Northern Ireland; how such nominees are chosen to serve; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. HanleyOrganisations were not asked to nominate individuals for membership of the health and social services boards which came into existence on 1 April 1991. The non-executive members on each board were appointed on the strength of their experience and for their particular abilities in various fields including management, personnel, finance and the voluntary sector and not as representatives of particular organisations.
Some of the members served on the boards prior to 31 March 1991 and their services were retained to provide the new boards with stability and continuity during the change over period.
