HL Deb 25 November 1992 vol 540 cc67-8WA
Lord Tebbit

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether it is their policy to create a single currency within the European union.

The Earl of Caithness

The UK is not obliged or committed to move to a single currency. The Government believe that it is too soon to consider whether or not the United Kingdom should join any such move. That decision will be made in the light of the circumstances at the time. No decision to move to a single currency would be made without the approval of Parliament in the form of an Act of Parliament.
