HC Deb 24 November 1992 vol 214 cc569-70W
Mr. Matthew Banks

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what proposals are being considered to simplify the investigation and prosecution of insider dealing under one authority.

Mr. Nelson

Under existing legislation the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry may appoint inspectors to investigate suspected insider dealing. Prosecutions may be brought by or with the consent of the Secretary of State or the Director of Public Prosecutions. These arrangements are carried forward in the Criminal Justice Bill, currently in another place, which seeks to amend the law on insider dealing.
