§ Mr. MacleanIt is my Department's policy to avoid the use of fire extinguishers which use ozone-depleting substances. All portable halon fire extinguishers in DOE buildings have been replaced by ozone-friendly alternatives. Other departments have been advised to follow a similar policy with a view to phasing out the use of ozone-depleting substances as soon as is practically possible and within the time scale set out by the Montreal protocol and other international agreements.
