HC Deb 19 November 1992 vol 214 cc297-8W
Mrs. Ray Michie

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence if he will make a statement regarding the transportation of armaments by rail in Scotland.

Mr. Archie Hamilton

In Scotland, as in any part of the United Kingdom, the Department uses the most convenient and cost-effective methods of transporting armaments. Providing these criteria can be met, movement by rail is, however, the preferred method. All the necessary safety precautions are taken and the relevant safety regulations strictly adhered to, whatever the method of transport.
