Mr. Dewar

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security what the increase in income to the Treasury would be in 1993–94 as a consequence of raising employees' national insurance contributions from 9 per cent. to 10.4 per cent.

Miss Widdecombe

The national insurance fund would receive about an extra £2.3 billion in 1993–94.

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security how much per week an increase in employees' national insurance contributions from 9 to 10.4 per cent. would cost families with incomes of(a) £5,000, (b) £7,000, (c) £9,000, (d) £10,000, (e) £15,000, (f) £25,000, (g) £40,000 and (h) £100,000 in 1993–94.

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security what was the total amount of(a) employers' and (b) employees' national insurance contributions collected for each of the last 10 fiscal years expressed (i) in cash terms, (ii) at June 1992 prices and (iii) as a percentage of total Exchequer income.
