To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what constraints he has placed on police overtime in England and Wales during the last three months; and what circulars or instructions have been issued to police committees on the subject of expenditure since April 1992.

It is the responsibility of a police authority to allocate its resources so as to provide an efficient service. The use of police overtime is a matter for individual police authorities.
