§ Mr. DafisTo ask the President of the Board of Trade if he will make it his policy to secure an international GATT meeting to examine the implications of trading policies upon environmental concerns.
§ Mr. NeedhamThe GATT already has a group on environmental measures and international trade, which meets regularly in Geneva. The group has met four times in 1992, most recently in October. The European Community, including the United Kingdom, plays an active role in the work of this group. Separately, the United Kingdom plays a leading role in the work of a special Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development group, which brings together trade and environmental policy-makers. This group is formulating policy guidelines to help ensure the proper interaction of trade and environmental policies.
