HL Deb 10 November 1992 vol 540 c5WA
Lord Rawlinson of Ewell

asked Her Majesty's Government:

On how many days a Law Officer of the Crown appeared in a court of United Kingdom jurisdiction or in any Tribunal of European or other jurisdiction in the years 1971, 1981 and 1991.

The Lord Chancellor (Lord Mackay of Clashfern)

Subject to any record that the noble and learned Lord may himself have kept for 1971, when he was Attorney General, the information which he seeks for the years 1971 and 1981 is not readily available.

With regard to appearances in court by the Attorney General and the Solicitor General in 1991, I refer the noble and learned Lord to my answer to his Written Question given on 20th October 1992 (Hansard,) 20th October 1992, col. WA 83).

So far as the Scottish Law Officers are concerned, during 1991 the Lord Advocate appeared for five days within the jurisdiction while the Solicitor-General for Scotland appeared for twenty-nine days within the jurisdiction, for one day before the European Court of Justice and for one day before the European Court of Human Rights.
