HC Deb 09 November 1992 vol 213 c622W
Mr. Harry Greenway

To ask the Secretary of State for National Heritage what plans he has to provide assistance towards the development of cricket within the United Kingdom.

Mr. Brooke

All Government funds for sport are channelled through the Sports Council who allocate these according to their policies and priorities. In 1991–92, the Sports Council provided £130,000 to cricketing governing bodies and a further £428,000 in grand aid for various regional projects aimed at developing the game in the United Kingdom. In addition, since its establishment last year the Foundation for Sport and the Arts has provided over £2 million to cricket projects. The Government also welcome a range of initiatives such as "Kwik Cricket" and "Capital Kids Programme", which are aimed at promoting cricket for young people.
