To ask the Secretary of State for Defence if he will provide the most recent figures for the annual running costs of(a) Portland naval base, excluding the naval air station, (b) Portsmouth naval base and (c) Devonport naval base.

In 1991–92 the annual running costs of the three naval bases were:

Naval Base £ million
(a) Portland (excluding air station) 12.1
(b) Portsmouth 99.7
(c) Devonport (excluding royal dockyard) 86.7

These totals exclude major expenditure on capital works and the cost of lodger units accommodated in all naval bases.
