Mr. GummerResponsibility for this matter is delegated to ADAS, the Central Science Laboratory, the Central Veterinary Laboratory, the Intervention Board Executive Agency and the Veterinary Medicines Directorate. I have asked their respective chief executives to write to the hon. Gentleman direct.
Letter from G. Stapleton to Mr. Martin Redmond, dated 30 October 1992:
You asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he would list, for the last 12 months, the titles of papers published by the chief executive of each executive agency for which he is responsible. Although the Intervention Board is a separate Government Department, I am responsible to the four Agriculture Ministers, and as this is a matter within the operational responsibility of this Agency, he has asked me to reply.
As a layman, I have published no scientific papers. The Intervention Board, however, published the following material between October 1991 and September 1992:
Corporate Plan 1992–93 to 1996–97 July 1992 Annual Report 1991–92 July 1992 Scheme Leaflets: CD 2 Flax Subsidies (revise) March 1992 CD 15 Support Buying of Cereals (revise) October 1991 ET 11 Fresh Fruit and Vegetables (revise) December 1991 ET 12 Processed Fruit and Vegetables (revise) November 1991 ET 15 Wine (revise) November 1991 ET 17 Processed Goods (revise) December 1991 ET 19 Community Victualling (revise) December 1991 FD 2 Securities and Guarantees October 1991 LP 12 Aid for the Private Storage of Butter (revise) February 1992 LP 18 Subsidy on Butter Supplied to Non-Profit-Making Organisations November 1991 LP 43 Milk Corresponsibility Levy Disbursement November 1991 LP 46 Surplus Food Scheme May 1992 I am sending a copy of this letter to the Library of the House.
Letter from J. M. Rutter to Mr. Martin Redmond, dated 26 October 1992:
To ask the Minister of Agriculture Fisheries and Food, if he will list, for the last 12 months, the titles of papers published by the Chief Executive of each executive agency for which he is responsible.
In his reply to the above question about Executive Agencies in MAFF, the Minister said that as this was a matter which was the direct responsibility of Chief Executives, he would ask them to write to you direct. I am doing so as Chief Executive of the Veterinary Medicines Directorate (VMD).
All papers published by the staff of the VMD, including myself, are recorded in the Annual Report and Accounts of the Directorate. That for the financial year 1991–92 was published on 29 July 1992 as House of Commons paper 174 and a copy placed in the Library. I enclose a further copy for your information. Details of publications are given in Appendix IX, with those by staff listed on pages 64 and 65.
In the period since 1 April 1992, I have had two further letters published in the Veterinary Record:
Rutter, J. M. (1992) Availability of medicines. Veterinary Record, 130,
Rutter, J. M. (1992) Availability of medicines. Veterinary Record, 130,
Letter from J. Walsh to Mr. Martin Redmond, dated 27 October 1992
288WThe Chief Executive of ADAS, Dr. Julia M. Walsh was appointed in June 1991. Dr. Walsh has not personally published any papers in the ensuing period. However, the nationally and internationally recognised Research and Development branch of the ADAS Executive Agency regularly publishes scientific papers and could supply specific details if required.
Letter from T. Little to Mr. Martin Redmond, dated 3 November 1992:
As you know the Minister has asked that Chief Executives of executive agencies for which he is responsible write to you direct with their answer to your question.
During the period in question I have published only one paper and that is:
Little, T. W. A., Hathaway, S. C., Broughton, E. S., Seawright, D. Control of Leptospira hardjo infection in beef cattle by whole herd vaccination.
Veterinary Record (1992) Volume 131, Issue 5, Pages 90–92.
Letter from P. Stanley to Mr. Martin Redmond, dated 26 October 1992:
As Chief Executive of the Central Science Laboratory, I confirm that I have not personally had any paper published during the past 12 month period. The Central Science Laboratory, however, has published a number of papers and I enclose for your information a copy of CSL's listing of Scientific Publications 1985–91, together with an update covering publications since the launch of the Agency in April 1992.
